Standing out in this generation is all the rage! Think about it, I mean walking down the street with your hair dyed hot pink is not exactly what I would call “blending in.” In the world, people want to stand out, they want to be different. But you see, they don’t know how to fulfill that. And so they stand out for the wrong things and for the wrong reasons. That alone should push us to stand up and stand out for God. Standing out for God is so amazing! It seriously is! By standing out for God and following his word, we are blessed daily, and we each get our very own angel. Kind of like our personal security guard! Who wouldn’t want to stand out for God?!
I guess you could say standing out for God is the everyday life of a Pentecostal girl. You know, we grow our hair long; we wear skirts below our knees, no jewelry, and no make up, the physical things. But to me, that’s not what standing out really means. I mean yeah, that is standing out when we live in a world that does the exact opposite. But standing out is so much deeper than physical and material things. Standing out is being ok with yourself. It’s when you’re totally comfortable with living for God and the rules that apply. It’s finding Joy in serving the Lord. Its when you walk into your school all geared up with armor of God and are ready to fight the spiritual things that come against you in every class. Standing out is opening your front door and taking that first step out, knowing, that you are the target of this world sin dwells in, as the verse runs through your head, the Lord is my Sheppard whom shall I fear. Standing out isn’t living for God so easily it becomes hard, it’s living for God so hard that it becomes easy.
I know that at times, it’s hard to stand out for God in this world. Most people think of the world when they think of standing out for God. But standing out doesn’t only need to happen in this world, it needs to happen right in our very own churches. I believe that at times, standing out in church is sometimes harder then standing out in the world. I know that that might sound crazy, but it’s true. You see, the devil doesn’t want the world; they’re already dwelling in sin. The devil wants us. And so he comes in to the church to attack us. He comes in by things that go on in our homes, with our attitudes, through spirits that attach themselves to people -- many different ways. And we as young people, as the heartbeat of our churches, fight against these things all through out the service, without even knowing it. We fight against strongholds and the walls that would keep us from moving forward. And if we can do that, if we can stand up to the devil, to me, that’s what standing up is all about.
God bless,
