Dear Debbie,

There was a point when I was really on fire for God, but I would wake up in the middle of night being attacked by a demon or something and having to call on the name of Jesus. I trust God to take care of me, but it really scared me. There was a point where I was terrified to go to sleep at night for fear of what might happen, and I just slowly started drifting further away from God. How can I get back to that place in God? I go to a public high school and am exposed to a lot of things that as a child of God I shouldn’t be exposed to. What can I do?

  Macy

Dearest Macy,

I ache for the hurt you are feeling but I rejoice in the desire you express. Two verses came to mind when I read your letter. 1 John 4:18 tells ut that “perfect love casts out fear.” It shows fear to the door and tells it to leave. And 2 Timothy 1:17: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

At that point, when you were so on fire for God, you were a threat to the ennemies of God and even now, as you decide that you want to have that same desire for God, you are becoming more and more of a threat. You can get to that place in God again .. but I believe it can be and will be so much greater than before... You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

I attended a public school growing up and although it is most definitely hard at times, you can do it. Greater is He [Jesus] that is in YOU than he that is in this world. Remember when you go to class and when you walk the hall way, you are not alone. God is with you and He WILL help you. Set aside time every day to spend with Jesus. Read the Bible and ask God to show you things in His Word.. this is God's love letter to you. Pray the Word.. If you want more of Jesus, tell Him. You are a light in your world and sometimes it's not easy, but all the time, it is worth it. Remember, the darker the night, the brighter the light. You are a light.

Love Him most. Seek Him first,
Debbie
